InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury and lifestyle portfolio, is set to open a new property in Guayaquil, marking its first destination in Ecuador. Developed in partnership with developer BPO Consulting, the InterContinental Guayaquil is set to open in 2027 in the city’s Samborondón district.

The InterContinental Guayaquil will be designed by SEMAICA, ODD Architects and Adriana Hoyos Design Studio. It will have 101 guestrooms, including 11 suites and one Presidential Suite. Public spaces will include a specialty restaurant, a poolside lounge, a rooftop pool, a spa and a fitness center. It will also have approximately 610 square meters of dedicated meeting and event space, including a 300-person ballroom in addition to a signature Club InterContinental lounge.

“We’re delighted to bring InterContinental Hotels & Resorts’ first destination to Ecuador, while building upon our long-standing relationship with BPO Consulting,” Leanne Harwood, SVP and managing director of luxury & lifestyle Americas, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said in a statement. “The InterContinental brand has long been celebrated for opening doors to new destinations around the world. The property will be close to the Samborondón district’s shopping, fine dining restaurants, corporate and global company offices as well as medical centers. The hotel is also a short drive from Guayaquil’s José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport.
